Ok, I took the test and downloaded Kubuntu 8.04.1. Took about 20 minutes or so via DSL to download almost 710 megs. Now the dumb question. This type of os is it pronounced linex or lynnx? I have two separte hard drives (C&D) with Vista 64 bit on C and D for storage. I guess it would be best to go back to where I downloaded the file from to find out what I do next or does someone here have the answers?

Well next you would burn the ISO to a CD or DVD and then either install it in Windows which would probably be your best option or install it on a separate partition.

most people pronounce it Lie-nux There wrong! hehe
its pronounced Lin-ucks.

And if you want to install it onto your computer, you will need to make a new partition... If you burn the ISO image to a CD, then pop it in, and reboot your computer, it should walk you through everything you need to do.

Ubuntu - which is my favorite. I have only tried one other OS, Sabayon, and Ubuntu is better in every way.

I clicked on the downloaded file and Nero 8 came up and burned the file with the only request for a blank disk. I couldn't believe it was that easy to burn an iso. When it was done it ejected the disk so I put it back in to see what was on the disk but I was greeted with a screen with Demo and full install or install inside of Windows like any other Windows app. I will look at the demo and if I like it I will install it on my Storage drive.

My opinion is Gentoo Linux is the best because you can customize it so much to your computer and it is the fastest distribution out there. It has almost every windows manager all you have to do is set it up.

For beginners I would use ubuntu but I am not an ubuntu fan. Debian is also very good too but some parts of it take some in depth know how.

I think I'm going to give Gentoo a try out.. I have heard a lot of good things about it. Is it that much difference between Ubuntu and Gentoo? or just like more features?
