So I'm thinking of building my own version of Linux... Just for something to do, and so I can get it exactly how I want it.

I've never tried anything like this before (So chances are it'll go wrong with me ). So what I was wondering, is if anyone else has had a go?

That site looks very interesting. I am sure you will learn heaps just by giving it a go. Wish I could help but I am "Linux Challenged" (meaning I wouldn't have a clue how to even start but I think the penguin is cute!) It would be great if you could post your progress with it so others who want to have a go can get some tips

Just a suggestion and an idea, but if you want to create a linux from scratch then might i suggest a little sideshow: If you cant get started with linux from scratch then you should try ceating your own workspace from Solaris. With solaris you can create your own environment just the way that you want to set it up. It may not be "creating" a new linux but it is somewhat related.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I wanna do it, I don't know much Linux stuff at all, so I think this will be a good idea for learning.

I had a little look at Solaris on the internet, But I decided not to download it just yet. Is it much different to Linux?

Ehh, its not too different from linux, but my dad knows alot about it b/c where he works he was one of the lead designers for creating a linux environment exaclty to the companys likeing. So if you wanna know more about it then just let me know and ill get alot of info

Jam, that would be great. Im some what of a newbie when it comes to linux. I wish i could totally give up Windows and move to linux but i am still at the reading "linux in easy steps stage" lol. Good luck with the project.

I know how t use it, but if i hit a problem, that's where my good friend Google helps me out I really want to learn more though, so I'm thinking something like this will teach me a lot of new things.

Having a few problems with one of my spare hard drives atm
but once I've got it sorted, I shall have a go! Its a 250GB HDD, so I'll partition it up, so maybe I could give a go at Solaris too.
