Default Any Ubuntu users?

Hello,
Looks like all the threads here are locked out so I thought I would drop in and say hello to any Ubuntu users out there, how about other users of other distros?

Thanks for the info southpark, if I see any threads, I will let you know. It nice to know there are a couple Ub untu users around. I use windows for admin tasks at work, and have no complaints with it other than it being a little slow at times. It seems that efficiency-wise Windows is really starting to fall behind *nix and BSD variants like Mac OSX.

I agree totally. Window's window manager is years out of date. Aero was just a new colour scheme and transparancy written into years-old code.

Aero = Vista = ME of 2007.... Let's discuss happy thoughts. I admit I typically use Mandriva. May work with Unbutu when i reload one of my linux boxes

Here is a happy thought...I can run the latest load of Ubuntu on my laptop which is only a 1.1 Ghz processor and 512MB memory with no lag. I was even running Compiz for a while with full 3d effects for a while there.

Though, I will admit it did slow things down just a tad running full desktop effects. It was just enough of a slowdown to be a tad annoying.

I guess if I were a gamer though I would prefer Windows.

The very server that CF runs on runs Ubuntu, and it has been up 33 days and 19 hours. Try getting an uptime like that on Windows

You need to realize that it's not Ubuntu's fault that most games are only written for Windows. You can thank Microsoft's monopolistic tendencies for that one. You can run games like WoW and Half Life using Wine-based solutions though.

like half life 2? or hl1? and btw people who produce those games make them for microsoft because thats what most people have. the more people start using ubuntu and things like that (boo apple!) the more games will come out for them. but a lot of people still go with microsoft because thats what the computer community has geared itself for. :\

its not microsofts fault it has blown competition out of the water. but hopefully open source will take hold over gamers/individual users pc's.

Actually, Microsoft has brought the competition out of the water. Microsoft used shady business tactics in the past to weasel themselves into the position they are in today.

Still... the point is that Microsoft sells it's inferior products via bullying tactics... if you don't sell your company to MS, they'll "borrow" your idea. Windows was "invented" after Bill and the gang saw MacOS

It's good business. Who is the richest man in the world? I am. But Bill comes a close second.
The same goes for Google, and other massive businesses. Though Microsoft pretty much monopolises everything computer related, and Google owns everything Internet related.
