Yeah, lots of things can be a pain on linux.

Linux itself can be a pain if you don't know it inside and out - simple as that.

As for WINE - A big linux friend of mine says "WINE" stands for "Wine Is Not an Emulator" - blah. He said you can use some other program for running blizzard games (D2, BW, W3) and some others such as CS. Though drivers seem to be the big pain that I see with Linux.

Though there's things like .doc formats (word) that it's nice to be able to open up on multiple computers (for working on it in different locations and transporting on a flash drive). It'd be nice if you could open that up on a linux distro, but unless it's in GEDIT I don't see it working. That shit's a pain.

Linux has the same problem that Macs have, in my opinion. The majority of files are created for Windows NTFS systems, and without a program like VMWare, it's hard to stay "up" on things. I've been around in the software world of mechanical engineering for a little over a year, and I can tell you, if you don't have XP, you = boned, b/c the software won't run on Vista, nor OS X, nor Linux. Even the heavy linux only users that are here on campus keep a laptop with XP on it - it's necessary unless you have dual cores which can run VMWare to emulate windows - then things can work fine.

If you're looking to run Windows on your Linux box, try VirtualBox. IMHO it's less laggy than vmWare, but vmWare may work better with your games.

And by the way... Linux is NOT windows! You have to do things differently. It's hard at first not to just give up and go back to Windows but use it for a few months, and you start to see why everyone says it's better

And as for Kubuntu being better - Kubuntu IS Ubuntu, just with the KDE desktop environment instead of Gnome [KDE is more similar to Windows in many aspects]

i've noticed some strange things though. when i get on to myspace the textbox used for password entry sometimes is only like 5 pixels wide, as opposed to being a bar where you can see your password being typed. most the time it loads properly, but i kind of have my doubts about Konqueror. then again this isnt a full install.

I tried ubuntu, but I had sound card driver issues, and didn't really care for it anyway.
