Cool kernel w/o initrd?

hi there

I'm currently compiling a custom kernel, and I want to know if a absolutely need to generate an initrd.img (mkinitrd) if I managed to have as less modules as possible...

Yes, this IS possible and it should decrease your boot time a bit as well. HOWEVER: You MUST compile your SCSI drivers in with the kernel, rather than loading them as modules.
