There are many Linux distributions [Linux with many add-ons] which allow you to do this. Just look for the words "live CD". A live CD runs straight from the CD itself without even touching your hard drive. Examples of live CD distros are Ubuntu [ Welcome - Ubuntu: Linux for human beings ] and Damn Small Linux - only 50mb in size [ DSL information ]

I use Ubuntu Linux, you can use it either from the disc, or install it.

To use a disc.
You can either download a copy of the .iso from here Only use this method if you are willing to download an .iso of 600MB (Minimal) and if you are capable of burning .iso format files to a disc. (You cannot just burn it normal, you need to get Nero or something similar to burn it specifically as an .iso.

Or, you can order a CD free of charge. However, this may take up to 6 week to arrive. (Presuming your order is accepted.) For that, go here

Unfortunatly, as i only use Ubuntu i don't know about anything else, However Ubuntu is a great Linux distrobution to start learning with.

I actually downloaded mine, After getting it installed, i was so pleased, i orded 5 free ones, i have 3 of them away, and keep two in case i ever need to perform a recovery.

One thing, Linux can seem daunting when you first boot up into it, but stick with it, and it can be your best friend

They're free because they want people to give the CDs to friends and help get the word around. Ubuntu is gaining popularity over Windows and with the release of Windows, I'm sure most people would prefer installing Linux over upgrading their computer or buying a new one to make it "Vista Ready".

using the software availible at CodeWeavers then you can run microsoft office natively on linux if you want to use visual basic macros instead of the openoffice java macros.
