Unhappy laptop not connecting

I have a new laptop with Windows Vista and I use a Belkin router which has worked fine for years. I have recently been having the problem that, although the laptop states that it is connected to the router, the internet connection will not work. The weird part is, the internet will work fine on my other, older laptop. It only happens intermittedly, but it is a real pain when I am working and my internet connection fails. I am not very good with computers, so anyone that may know what the problem is, please help me.

Howdy!

How old is your router? It sounds like it is not configured to handle the changes MS made to the VISTA network stack. You may try looking to see if there is a firmware upgrade to your hardware to allow your vista machine to operate properly.

Whatever you decide, let others here know what you did to make things work. Helping others is the price of help (in it's cheapest form).
