Default Have DSL modem + laptop.... (noob)

Hi..

I have a DSL modem and also a laptop and on my regular desktop computer I have an internet connection.

So to get an internet connection, do I just plug my DSL modem into my laptop and it will automatically connect? Or what do I do?

Sorry.. i'm not a very tech-smart guy haha.

Usually you can just plug the Ethernet or USB cable (your choice) straight into the computer and it will either connect straight away or just ask for your User/password.
Sometimes, however, Your ISP (internet service provider) will have given you a software CD that has the necessary drivers and software needed to connect. If it didn't come with a CD just plug it straight in.

When I plug the modem in and the ethernet into the computer, it tells me it needs to find a driver or something like that...

Then it tries to find one but it says it cannot find one.

What does this mean?

so it would seem you need drivers, If you didn't get a CD with your modem or internet package i would probably go to the support page of your internet company/modem and download them from there

Yeah that would work. You know when its searching for hardware? select the button that says 'choose driver manually' and the browse to the flash drive and it should install the driver and it should then work.
