Default setting up wifi in taxi

Hi

I'm trying to set up wifi access for passengers in my taxi.

At the moment I have mobile broadband through the 3 network on my laptop. I would like to make my laptop an access point so passengers can access the internet with their own laptops.

I have a buffalo usb wireless adaptor which i've installed but I can not figure out how to put this into access mode?

Any one help?

also at some point in the future I want to change the access point to a smaller computer to amke it easier to sotr in the car. Would the best option be a palm computer or PDA or one of the new ultraportable computers?

Thanks

Hello Kevin,
Firstly - welcome to CompuForums. We provide our computer help for free, so we would highly appreciate it if you could help us. You can do this by answering other people's questions, or if you are not so technically-minded, post in our general lounge forum. Alternatively you can purchase a premium membership to help contribute to the rising running costs of this site. If you can't help us then we can't help you. This system allows us to continue to provide free computer support.

I like your idea, and it should be possible to do. However, it would be useful to know what operating system your laptop is running before we continue.
As for small computers - you may want to look into the Asus eeePC. The older models with the smaller screen are only around £220-240, and with the new model being released soon the price should drop. It's about the size of a paperback book and would sit happily on a car dashboard.

Firstly Its My Pleasure to CompuForums. I hope you will become a regular user and look forward to reading more posts from you. If you require help from us, then please be sure to post in threads other than your own. These do not need to be technical posts - we have a section where you can discuss anything unrelated to computing and technology Which is situated in the General Category called The lounge. Alternatively, you may wish to become a premium member for even more great benefits. If you need any help please be sure to send me or another mod/admin a personal message and we will do our best to help you.

Hi Ash and Mr Pickles

thanks for the replies.

I've taken a look at the suggested Asus and I think I'll definately seriuosly think abot that pretty soon. It looks quite a nice piece of kit and should be ok to just act as a router for my mobile broadband.

I'm not sure if my broadband drivers will work on linux so I'll probably have to get windows xp as well.

I'll keep my eyes on the forums and try and put in anything useful as and when.

Cheers
Kevin
