Default 2 modems

Is it possible to have two cable modems running on the same service at two different outlets in one home? It's just a thought.

well, it seems as though it is possible, but whats the reason and why do that when you could easily have a cheap wireless hub, or just have a wired hub which would take up less bandwith than 2 modems and also it would be more efficent on your part for spreading out the connection more evenly. If you were just gonna have those two modems, it would take up alot more space than normal, things would run alot slower and it would make you tear all your hair out.what i suggest is using either Routers or Hubs. These have infinite possibilities as what you can do with them and they spread the bandwith alot easier. But if i may ask again to clarify, whats the reason for wanting two modems?

It might work if you've got two subscriptions and two separate modems, but generally ISP's won't let you do this and will tell you to buy a router. It's theoretically possible on the UK's cable network, but Virgin [the UK's terrible, terrible monopoly that now owns the entire cable network] don't let you connect any equipment to it other than your own.

i actually dont have virgin, i have cox. either way it might be possible with two subscriptions, but like ash said, most isps wont do this for you. not to mention that would cost you a shit ton of money on top of the second modem. if u purchased a second modem i would refund it and get a router and adapter. hope we answered ur question well enough. laters

As far as I know you can only get Virgin cable in the UK... if it ever comes to the USA though, AVOID.

?? you can indeed setup two modems on one connection considering i just have If you have two or more cables connecting directly to wherever you get your internet from then you can connect modems to them. It doesnt do much though, hence why i asked what would be the need for it when there are hubs and there are routers, but it seems that it is possible. Also my internet or Xbox live wasnt any slower than normal when i didnt have two of them connected. This is possible to create but the need for it is unccessasary. Just stick to the Hubs and routers and you will be fine.
