well ok this is whats happening. i used to use about 60mb a day when not downloading. and that was fine i have a 10gb usage. but now all of sudden this month it has started being 300mb a day. now i have changed a few things such as instead of hibernating when closing my laptop i just make it still stay on which leaves the internet connected. i have been playing miniclip games for a little bit of time a day and look at lots of pictures of cars and motorbikes.

please help with letting me know what is happening and wat i need to stop doin as i dont want to go over my limit as my speed is slowed and i get blasted by my dad.

yes i have a netgear wireless router and i have a main computer with trend micro on it but my computer has avg and then the windows firewall.i use msn and im not downloading im just using it to do the things listed please help. i need to stop it from doin it so i dont get in trouble.

Does the router have any encryption enabled? If so, what standard?

OK, you are running with pretty good security so it is unlikely that anybody is connecting to your network and using your bandwidth.

One thing for you to try would be removing AVG completely and then installing Avast Antivirus, and letting it run a boot time scan. You should immediately however run a HouseCall on your system and let us know the results:

hmm i don't think it is to do with my security or that. i thought it might have been from playing miniclip because ive started a little bit in the past month and my mum has been playing yahoo mahjong a lot and ive been looking at car pics and motorbikes heaps. so that why i was wondering if those thigns could cause downloads to get used.

Looking a picture is not going to cause you to use that much bandwidth. Where are you getting these numbers that you are using so much anyway?

im started 12 midnight today by not playin games or lookin at photos or doin that stuff becuase im gunna see if it goes back down to bout 60-100mb lke normal then i know that its wat im doin on the internet which is casuing it.

Do you run limewire? becuase there are many cases that limewire really screws with alot fo people becuase of other people uploading. Also, it could be your router or your modem. Try resetting your router and see what happens. Also try ressting your modem if this does not work. It could also be that you need a firmware upgrade for netgear becuase im using a netgear as well and they recently released a firmware upgrade so try doing these things and then reporting back to us
