| OK well I am currently using a 'netgear wgr614v6' wireless router right? Ok this router does almost everything fine, I can browse the web download whatever with no problems. However, when I start to play online games (specifically WC3) the router will drop the internet connect for a short amount of time, just enough to disconnect me from my current game. It does not just drop my connection from my game, but my entire internet connection. I know this because I alt+tabbed when I got disconnected from my game and saw that it also disconnected my AIM. Is my game simply too much broadband activity for this router, so it will disconnect? Help! |

| Yes I am using windows to manage my wireless connection, this problem has occurred on both my PC's. My windows XP PC and my new windows vista PC. Same Exact problem... I have posted on roughly three other forums and no one was able to give me any valuable information. |

| i would strongly recommend using the wireless client manager that came with your router/adapter it should be located on the cd that came with the device. I would not reccomend using windows to manage the device. Im quite sure this is your problem |

| Hello Akuma, Firstly - welcome to CompuForums. We provide our computer help for free, so we would highly appreciate it if you could help us. You can do this by answering other people's questions, or if you are not so technically-minded, post in our general lounge forum. Alternatively you can purchase a premium membership to help contribute to the rising running costs of this site. If you can't help us then we can't help you. When you lose your connection - does the wireless icon on your computer stay "lit" [as in, not with a red cross]?

| Ok well that brings up an entirely different issue on my windows vista computer, even when I am connected the wireless icon has a red cross and when I attempt to go to my network folder it doesn't respond. I have no idea why this is, I just assumed it was one of the hundreds of vista glitches I have heard about. But to answer your question on my windows XP PC the answer is no. It does not stay lit. I know the problem is caused by THIS specific router because the one we used previously worked perfect for a year, until it broke due to physical damage Also I may be blind but I do not think that the setup CD with this router provides a wireless client. I have searched it rather thoroughly. |

| Do the computers lose connection at the same time? If so, you may be looking at something environmental, ie: cell phone, microwave interference, etc. Is the Router power cycling at inopportune times? Check the power outlet at the router, make sure it's not on a power plug connected to a light switch. Do you lose connection when physically connected to the router? Does the disconnect happen randomly or at regular intervals? Windows XP will use a separate network connection icon on the taskbar for each network connection. The one on the XP computer with a red X on it may be the physical network card just saying it's unplugged. Make sure you have the latest firmware on the router. You should, since Netgear says the latest one is from May of 2007. I had a problem with my Linksys system once where the type of wireless card in my desktop was incompatible with the router even though they were both Linksys, odd. I had to get a different version of the wireless card. Some of my suggestions may seem a bit obtuse, but I've seen many strange things in the world of computing. Please don't knock me for it. we need to look at all options. Hope I've helped in some small way. Best of luck. Archivedbyte |

| OK So I have posted before on some problems i was previously having with a Netgear router (Wgb614v6). It would disconnect me from games and during some games like Warcraft and in counter-strike it would spike up to 500 latency. I tried posted on 3 different forums and nothing seem to resolve the issue...So I recently went out and bought an expensive $120 Netgear router, the WNDR3300. Much to my surprise, THIS ROUTER DOES THE SAME THING, it has severe lag spikes in it that cause me to be disconnected from some games and to lag out on others. WHY DOES THE ROUTER THAT IS TWICE AS EXPENSIVE DO THE SAME THING? Can someone help I am seriously about to kill someone over this issue |

| In this case it is highly likely that something in your home [or possibly outside] is interfering with your wireless signal - it could be a microwave oven, themostat or one of many other things. Try switching the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11. Also we've given you a lot of help but you are so far yet to post in another thread. It would be appreciated if you could help some other people or get a premium membership.

| What kind of internet connection is feeding your router? If it's cable, I heard of many people (including myself) that experience quick, half-second cuts in their internet connection. Often times it will be at the exact same time every day which suggests some kind of maintanence routine. The cut wouldn't be enough for normal web browsers to notice, but it gets annoying very fast for internet gaming. |

| hello!!! depending on what game your playing...you might need to forward your ports for w/e your doing. alot of online pc or computer games, in order to run efficiently need ports to be forwarded. look it up on google for your game and see if it does need ports forwarded. in the event that it doesnt, its probobly just your connection reliability. maybe your connxtion is adequate for the game you play. or you could try unplugging your router and just striaght jack from your modem to your pc. if your game does need forwarded ports, check here-- PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
