I recently bought an Xbox 360 and i want to be able to axcess my computer and 360 at the same time. I have cable from the wall coming into the box which transfers it to a ethernet cable which then goes into the back of my tower. My question is: If i were to buy a ethernet switch, would it work with out the use of a router? Thank you for your time and your responses would be greatly appreciated(Spelling?, haha)

listen forget all the stuff you heard. i have this setup on to of my xbox's what you are looking for is two things.

an extra ethernet port(very cheap)
and a crossover cable(very cheap)

1. install the new ethernet port
2.have your main ethernet cable already plugged into you computer giving it internet accsess
3.take the crossover cable and plug it into the new ethernet port you just installed and then plug in the other end into the back of your xbox or xbox360
4. then go to Network connections and then highlight all the connections you see there and then right click them while they are highlighted and then go down to the option Bridge Connections let it bridge the connections and then your all set
5. one more thing though, the only way that you will be able to accsess xboxlive is if you turn down to medium or a lower selection on any firewall you have. if this is not met then you will not get accsess to xboxlive.
6Your finished! Now, you have internet accsess on your computer and on your xbox.

i got an old wireless router from a friend but the wireless capability no longer works but the ports still do. I did not receive any cd, manual, or wires except the ac adapter. I hooked it up and everything connects but its really slow when i turn my Xbox live on. Is there anything i can change to make one thing have priority over another? I'm not sure if you understand what i'm saying but help would be appreciated

Is your second post anything to do with your first issue?

uhm yes i agree with ash on making new topic, but yes there are in some certain routers or cases where you CAN give priority to a connection. but you would need a CD to configure it, a manual to tell you HOW. And obviuosly wires, all the things you DONT have. except the wires right? i would sure hope so. but yes, the answer is you are able to prioritize your connections. i did it for both my PCs when im running an IRC server. But you really would need a CD and a manual. If you know the type and model number of the router, then post it here and i will get you some detials, if not then try using google and good luck!!
