It would be useful if you could please punctuate your posts a little more - also do you have another account on this forum, possibly entitled Etniezz55?

I think you are getting interference between the two wireless routers. They may well be both operating on the same frequency. To test this, set up 2 different security settings for the wireless routers. Change the challenge phrase, and set them both to the highest security you have. If they are both operating using the same credentials, you have a nightmare in the making. Also, you will need to set all the wireless PC's up to connect automatically to the best signal, and have 2 approved accounts.

Obviously this is not ideal. It may be wise to get a single WAP (Wireless Access Point). It is basically an antenna extender. There are several on the market.

Other things that could help. Raise the newest router to a high level (this is in the documentation that came with the router). Keep it more than a couple of feet from the nearest PC, speakers, television or other electronic device. Check to see what other wireless devices could be interfering with the signal (Telephones, home theaters, additional nearby wireless routers...).

There are more suggestions and questions, but i'm short on time. Will ask more later.

Thanks for the info. I am considering doing this at my family's house. Any more suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I doubted it would, the interference would occur if the test passed (which it did, in my opinion). The two routers are both operating at the same frequency, thanks for confirming it.

I'd recommend the WAP I mentioned before getting a WAP or antenna extension would be better than two wireless routers in one house.

Antennas Cables for some cables. Of course, these would only work on the second router you mentioned, as it is the only one with an external antenna. There is not much info on the netgear site for these 4 antenna extensions/cables. Thus, I can't provide enough help there, sorry. But I'd probably recommend a longer cable to see about routing the antenna somewhere it could be as close to the floor/ceiling (between floors) in the center of the house. Of course, you know your home layout better than I do.

I guess some of my other questions would have to do with the composition of the house you are in. Is it wood frame? Metal Frame? How old/new is it (or specifically the wiring). The separation between floors, is it Wood or concrete? Basically, I'm trying to get you to consider whether or not your house is acting as a Faraday Cage or otherwise blocking some of the radio signals. (In other words, you don't have to answer these in the post)

Additionally, if you do have one router hooked up to the second, you should turn off NAT and SPI firewalls.

You could try turning off DHCP on the second router for both wireless and/or the LAN ports. The latter suggestion may help more than many things, as your laptops don't know which router they need to get their IP address from. When you do this, the better rangemax router should keep it's DHCP left on.

Don't know if that will help much, good luck.
