With a wireless router hooked up to your modem and wireless dongles for any computers that don't have wifi.

All you need is WPA security set up, it's virtually uncrackable unless someone wants to sit outside your house for days on end. Wireless is the easiest setup, unless you want cables running everywhere.

Most wireless routers are reliable. Mine was online for the past 5 days since I moved it, before I needed to reboot it to save some settings.

I have had a few problems with wireless, but I think that was the cheap ass wireless PCI card - my PS3 and 360 never drop a connection and speeds are generally great

i had a hawkings tech wireless router for 24 hours once. it was on sale at comp usa for $9.99. i thought that since this technology was so common, it was a great deal. i was wrong. it dropped the signal every 2 minutes (for real) anyhow after calling tech support, i realized that it was going to be a waste of time. i went back to my wired connection until i felt the urge to try something else. i could have returned it, but out of frustration i tore it apart to see what it looked like on the inside. i think that pretty much voids an exchange.

Hey what's up leethomas
I have to agree with everyone who has replied to your post as of right now. Wireless is the perfect solution for someone who wants to get rid of excess wires, while also being able to share an internet connection. Wireless can be set up to be quite secure. Like Ashely early said WAP is just one of the many ways to secure it. To be honest. I myself have had a Linksys router very affordable that gets the job done for me. I have had it for about 5 years and never saw a connection drop yet. With 4 computers and a XBOX connected. I must say its quite nice to be able to add a computer whenever you like anywhere in the coverage area. If however you wish to connect the computer to the wired you would have to either drill holes in the wall or run a CAT5 cable or fire wire down the stairs(depending on what you have) and buy a router to connect to your modem in order to share the connection to the two computers. If your looking for an honest opinion I would go with wireless. Let me know how things turn out. Best of luck!

Hey

Reliability isnt a problem as long as you invest in decent equipment, for £9 what do you expect to receive? Hardly gonna be the best quality in the world. I ended up paying £60 for my wireless access point. It doesnt even route, it just acts as a bridge between my wired and wifi network and it has never failed... So if you invest the money you'll get the quality and the uptime.

You always get what you pay for.
I've got a dlink router worth $50 at it works brilliantly. Never had a problem with it.
