Default About Wi-Fi

Hi, there I haven't been here for awhile it's because I recently bought an apartment in the City.

Well I'm home now, in fact I'm downstairs here on my laptop postin here on the forum. My laptop is wireless and my router is upstairs next to my desktop.

Anyway before I left I took my laptop with me and I've been there in the city for the past several weeks, so I decided to try the wi-fi spots there. I had a hell of a time connecting, sometimes I could connect other times I couldn't, I was just wondering if anybody here has the same problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A-105 so I don't think it's anything to do with my computer.

Are wi-fi spots just natuarlly that way?

I've never had problems with wireless hotspots myself.

The hotspots round here require a monthly subscription :p. Could be a whole range of things, you may be trying to connect to a protected network, you may be too far away from the Access point, weather, how busy the wireless spot is etc.

This is probably due to you either being too far away from the router, or if you were connecting to private hotspots that were left insecure, they may have enabled MAC filtering. Of course, the problems may have been with the combination of your laptop and the router, but you shouldn't have got this if you were conncecting to public hotspots. Remember, wifi is only really designed to be used in the average-sized home, not your neighbour's home down the road. I won't bother going through the ethics of connecting to unsecured access points, either.
