Default "Limited or no connectivity" problems

My parents bought a new computer, and I inherited the their old one, which has never been unplugged from the internet before. I bought a wireless card and installed everything and it went fine until I tried to connect to the internet. I get the message "Limited or no connectivity", and I can't renew the IP. I've been researching this problem for a while and have found that it is a very common problem, but I've tried all the fixes and nothing has worked. I've tried the winsockXP, all the cmd prompts, restarting the modem and router, and reinstalling the drivers twice. I thought that maybe it was my norton that was screwing everything up, but I shut down the internet protection and nothing has worked...has anyone had a problem like this?

Also, for some reason I can't get into my routers config. ussually I've gone into the internet and typed my IP address into the bar, and I could get right in, but since we got vista, I can't do that anymore. This is driving me nuts....anyone have any ideas?

Well, if you're running Norton, that is bound to be causing any number of random problems on your computer.

However, it sounds like DHCP may have been disabled on the computer. Do you know how to get into your computer's IP/DNS server settings?

Is that when you type your IP in the address bar? if so, I can't get into it for some reason on vista.

Welcome the the world of Vista! MS have seen fit to rewrite all of the code which handles DHCP.
Have you checked your router manufacturers site for a firmware update for Vista?

Also, you might want to try the following, but can't guarantee it will work (but it wont make things worse!).
1. Control Panel --> Network List
2. Right click your connection, select properties
3. Highlight your adapter and click properties.
4. DISABLE
5. Back to Control Panel --> Device Manager
6. Find you Network card and ENABLE it.
7. Voila ~ Don't ask why or how ~ it's a VISTAism!

Forgot to say, make sure that your IP v.6. is disable, I know it's supposed to auto detect but occasionally still spouts junk and confuses other hardware!
