Default Network Storage

Lately I've been considering getting a storage central network drive. Mainly for me to share somewhat large files over the network.
I can get a wired 10/100 Netgear Storage Central drive for $100 and plug it into the router and I'll be all set. I'll be putting in an IDE 30Gb hard drive and an IDE 60Gb hard drive.

Are there any objections?

If you've got a wireless network and a spare computer, you can just get a large hard drive for it and set up a FTP server on it.

That is what I've previously been doing, but the computer was noisy and I took up a'lot of my room so I sold the computer. I figured I'd just get a storage drive.

Without looking again, I believe the storage central is just a toaster sized case. You will need to add a drive or two to it. No real raid to it being only 2 drives. How much do you want to spend, and do you have some external USB hard drives? Linksys has a device that is a NIC coupled with a USB hub setup to be a NAS. That may be your cheap option.

I've been looking into the 1700 USD NAS form Netgear (I just like their stuff) at 2TB, gigabit ethernet with 4 port gigabit switch, and a few USB ports for expanding the storage. I have a few other of their devices I am looking at too.

But look closely at the NAS options. If you want a good sound system (from my working) the Buffalo Terastation is very nice. It all depends on what you want to spend.
