| Hi there Blake, Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership. If you could answer the following questions, I'll be able to help you better. Are you running any antivirus, antispyware and/or firewall? If so, what products? Have you changed any settings recently? How long have you been having these issues? Have you tried System Restore? What have you tried in order to fix this so far? What sort of network setup do you have, and who provides your internet access?

| Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. You can use the same option again to undo it if you need to. If it fails it'll undo itself. However, some details on your network setup would be useful, such as how the other computers are connected to it.

| Hi Blake. Welcome. Are you using a cable Internet Connection, or DSL? If it's Cable, unplug the modem to discontinue power to it. Power down your PC as well. Wait at least 3 minutes, and power the modem back on. After you get the green light for LAN or Internet, start up your PC. Try to connect. If this fails, and you have cable, call your ISP and have then RESET YOUR IP ADDRESS. If you are using DSL, unplug the modem, power down the PC, wait 3 minutes, power On the modem and power on the PC. What do you get? If these fail: on the back of the modem is a small tiny hole, maybe marked "reset". All external cable/DSL modems have these tiny holes. Take a paper clip, straighten it out, and poke it in. Inside this hole is a small button that needs pushed for only a few seconds. Go ahead and try that. then do the modem power-down | power-up procedure again. ________________________ This user added the following: ________________________ Just one more thing to this post. I didn't realize you had a router - - Disconnect the router, and run the Cat-5 cable coming out of the Modem directly to your PC. You need to be sure the Router hasn't failed, or a port gone bad. Remove the existence of the Router from your network so as to pinpoint the problem and eliminate possible hardware issues. Last edited by Tom; 07-01-2007 at 01:27 AM. Reason: Added information |

| Is the computer connected wirelessly to the router or through a network cable? Also - will you be visiting this forum again once we have fixed this problem for you?

| Stop what ever you are doing, and do NOT call your Internet Service Provider (they may have a contract to bill your parents for technical support -- I don't think your parents want another bill without them approving it.). At this point. I need to ask a couple more questions. Did you remove the existence of the router? Are you connected directly to the modem? |
| |||
| You need to remove the router (the LinkSys) and connect the computer directly to the modem. It may be possible that the Router went bad, malfunctioned, or something else. See if the PC can connect to the Internet without the Router and ONLY the modem. No, you wont need a password to connect to the internet. Try it. Well be here to help you. |

| Hmm... I'm not sure if I've asked this before, but is this a standard network router or wireless router? A lot of people use the terms interchangeably.
