Something my mother ran across. Her modem has a reset button. Unplugging did not reset the modem, but the button did. It was located at the top rear of her modem.
I don't remember seeing anyone ask what changed between when O.P. could connect and when he couldn't. But then, maybe I missed it.
Is the Firewall on or off? Have you tried some known good LAN cables? (a crimped cable can cause erratic or even lost connection). Have you ensured that you have the proper cables where needed (Crossover between modem and router IF it is required). This is mostly after taking the router out of the loop to make sure it was hooked up properly. Also, on that note, If you ran a crossover from the modem to your computer, it may not detect it properly (not all NIC's can sense a crossover cable).
I think that if the wireless is connecting, but the wired is not, then maybe the router settings have been changed somehow. This could be because someone wanted to improve security, and set a wrong setting, or heaven forbid, someone has a hack that could affect your modem. The router should have some logs, you can try to see if you can view the logs (usually via a web-browser interface) to see if you see any reason it would have quit working properly with the wired connections. Also, you could seek permission from your parents to upgrade the Firmware on the router. Read the instructions carefully first.
Come to think, the routing table could be messed up, but clearing the router should have helped that. |
