I have an external harddrive that can be accessed by people we let in our network. We recently bought a new router that gives us a longer distance. I hooked up everything and made sure that I had all the wires set up, but once I try to get into the harddrive from any computer, it says that its not connected to the router...I've double checked every wire and restarted everything, but still no dice...any ideas what might be wrong?

Is this an external hard drive with an Ethernet interface?
It would be useful if you could provide us with the make and model of the HD.

You could try the easy way and connect the external HDD to the main server and share it on the network. This is what our school does for all students' and staff's documents.

If the External Hard Drive has USB interface. I recommend checking out the LinkSys network attached storage adapter. It allows you to hook up your USB hard drives to your network. It is USB2, and even has a few extra USB ports not specifically set aside for the external hard drives. I have not looked at it's manual, So I'm unsure what other capabilities it has.
