| Morning all! Heres a rather strange little problem we are having...laptop running WINXP SP2, Wireless disabled, LAN enabled, DHCP enabled, auto detect IP address and gateways. When they take out the network lead, and pop it back in, it wont renew the IP address. No errors show in windows So into CMD, ipconfig /renew and up pops the error RPC SERVER UNAVAILABLE.......reboot the laptop and it renews IP addy and works ok, (till they take out the network lead again - they dont like the answer of..dont bl**dy unplug it then! Now, we have checked... RPC enabled in Control Panel, firewall tested on/off and is ok. Lan port driver and firmware updated. The server is running fine, absolutly no problems with that as all off the other hundreds of pc's and laptops work fine. Any ideas people?

| Are you up to date with windows updates? You could try see if some of your windows files have been corrupted. Go to the run menu (start -> run) and type sfc /scannow. You'll need your windows XP cd so it can compare the files.

| Hi Noodles, Thanks for the reply, Yep the laptop is fully up to date, no corruptions that I can find. Admittedly its a little distracting with the user standing behind you asking What you doing? whats that for? is it fixed yet?......think i'll just nab the laptop back to the IT room and sort it from there lol

| Moderation people, you can close this thread if you like, the issue remains but finally they topped taking the network lead out.......problem solved. Plus the overhaul and upgrade propositions lately within the company mean it wont be an issue anyway. Cheers
