Hi there ne146t9
Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do.

Just so we're sure it's not a browser issue, please download and install Firefox - see our page on it for more details:
http://www.compuforums.org/get-firefox.html

Once downloaded and installed, please see if you get the same issues as you did with Internet Explorer.

Hmm - you mention logging on. Are you using dialup or broadband? If your ISP provided you with your modem, you might want to contact them - it could be faulty.

Well - would you be able to explain what you meant by "i click on internet explorer it trys to sign in and it says cannot connect to server"? I'm sorry - but the lack of grammar does make it hard to understand what you are trying to say.

OK - thankyou for providing me with more detail. I didn't mean "simple terms", just some simple sentence structure - and the "Renewing IP address" issue would have been useful to know from the start.

Try this:
Click Start, then navigate to the Connect To option, and in the menu that appears, select Show all connections.

Right click the one that is connected to your modem - this is most likely to be Local Area Connection or sometimes, your ISP's name. Select Properties.

In the This connection uses the following items box, scroll down and select Internet Protocol [TCP/IP]. Click the Properties box underneath the box, on the right.

On the menu that appears, make sure that both the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS Server automatically options are selected - rather than manual configuration. Click OK on all boxes and reboot.

It may be that your IP cannot resolve your DNS , On the modem when you turn your computer off does any lights flash that arent supposed to be flashing? eg the DSL light? If thats the case then its a fault with your line and you will need to contact your ISP.

It may be that Windows firewall is confilicting with another Internet secrurity you have and its blocking your access to the internet and everytime you reinstall your modem it gives you access for a while then blocks it again.

Do you have any Internet Security installed or another firewall that isnt Windows firewall installed?

Hi
I don't have an answer but maybe a solution. I assume that embarq have issued you with an id and password for your account, therefore if you can you access your modem control panel, usually with something like 192.168.2.1 or 10.0.0.1 followed by the admin username and password, you can often enter your login details right into your modem. This would then mean that your modem connects to the ISP and usually stays connected whilst your PC merely connects to the modem. I had a similar problem before and this worked for me.

Good Luck

Thumbs up Thanks for the heads up...

Thanks for the heads up Ash and for keeping it respectable!
However, whenever I post a solution it's not just for the original poster but hopefully, anyone else who's having similar problems and catches the thread.

Actually, on this point, could I say that often people get caught up and go off topic, this is very confusing for anyone trying to follow the thread, so just a quick note not to lose the thread.

Thanks
