| Hi. Yes, it's possible, but it would involve opening up ports on your router--which is very risky--because if your friend can access the folder, then literally anyone could. You can find more information here: google "how to access a file over the internet" There are so many how-to guides online about this, it would be pointless to make another one. I just googled it, and I think the first result looked pretty informative.

| You would be better off creating an FTP Server, and opening port 21, as opening the SMB or Windows File Sharing port is very very risky, especially in XP. Its very easy for ftp, all you do is install a ftp server like ceberus, and allow port 21 to that machine, then in the ftp server set up a user account and associate it to the folder you want. Then your friend just types ftp://hostname, or ftp://ipaddress. Then it will ask them for a username and password, if they enter the correct values then it will show them the folder, where they can download the files, and if you set the permissions also upload and delete. From 9am till 8pm GMT my FTP server is on, you can take a quick look at the login screen your friend will recieve if you go to ftp://puttfamily.co.uk in your web browser. You will be able to have your very own server like that running from your house. Remember youll need to have the computer sharing the files on all the time, or atleast when you friend wants to access them.

| Thanks guyladouche and robputt. I think I'll do the ftp server. It sounds like it would work good. ________________________ This user added the following: ________________________ Oh. | There are many free FTP server programs--a lot of them came up in my result from google--I didn't save the webpage, otherwise I'd link it to you. Or you just just look up "Free FTP Server program" on google--that should do it. It'll probably be a bit tricky to setup the first time--but it should work perfectly for what you want to do.
