| Avoid WEP - it is insecure and can be cracked in minutes. WPA encryption [whatever type] is crackable, however, it would require somebody [who knew what they were doing] to be in range of your network for at least a week to collect the data they need to crack it - if you changed your key weekly, then that would render their efforts useless. I personally use WPA-PSK with AES, which is enough security for my needs.

| Personally - I do not change my key, as only one of my neighbours would be able to pick up the wifi signal. But if security of the connection is a big concern for you, then you should change the key. What model number is the router?

| If you're worried about WEP or WPA, then you could enable MAC address filtering on your router--you input the MAC addresses of the NIC's you're going to be using to connect to the router on different computers, and only NIC's that have the MAC addresses you add to the router will be able to connect to it. Just something to consider. But not all Routers use MAC address filtering.

| I have the exact same router as you. Where have you noticed this traffic? If you enable the security + MAC filtering then you should be fine. But the lights on my router still occasionally flash, even when both of my computers are off.

| Exactly what lights are flashing? If you have changed the keys and enabled all security settings, then there is nothing to worry about.

| The lights on my router/modem [particularly the modem light on the router] also flash like crazy - even when I unplug my computer from it and I'm certain nobody is connected wirelessly. The lights on your modem/router are not a good indicator of traffic - some data is sent to / from your modem and router even when everything is offline.
