Hello wolfy69,

Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit us and post often in the future - it helps us to grow, and it's only fair that if we help you, you help us.

Hmm - have you tried this router with other [wireless] computers before? Also, what have you tried in order to get it to work already?

Question wireless headache

hi ive changed the signal channel tried them all and yes the belkin box works reallly well as im connected to it now with my advent laptop just cant get the toshiba to recognise the signal at all ive disabled all the security on the belkin box an tried to do a area search even brought up the radar thingy on vista an all it says thats in the area is bluetooth (my phone ) and the bt home hubs which are my neighbours networks even tho my advent is logged in even tried switching from 802.11b/g to just g as the toshiba runs 802.11a/g wireless connection an still nothin dont think its a security issue as it just cant see the belkin box signal at all an i dont know why. sayin that tho i dont know enough on vista to find out what the toshiba signal search is an what freq even my psp picks up the belkin and the home hubs and a netgear network . i even tried to put in the settings manualy but still nothin as it dont see the signal

Yes - I do know what the difference is between a BT Home Hub and a Belkin Wireless Router.

We are trying to diagnose your problem, which you already asked about earlier.
One thing you might want to try - hold the reset button in on the router for 30 seconds, connect your laptop to it via Ethernet cable and see if you can connect to it via a wired network. If it works, give the wireless connection another try.

Wireless-B and G operate on the same frequencies, no matter that the router. [although they do operate on different channels, but your wireless card should pick this up]. Wireless-A operates on a higher frequency.

Secondly - have you checked that ssid-broadcast is enabled on your router? I'm sure that you have checked, but it's often the simplest thing that causes a big problem. If you tried holding in the reset button but it did nothing - try this: Hold the reset button on the back of each unit before connecting the power, connecting the power with it still held down then continuing to hold the reset button for 30 seconds.

Smile wireless pain killers kicked in

to start off ill thank ash for his help,
but as ive learned alot from his advise i just wanted say that my issue wasnt any fault of the belkin but of being to close to the unit at first connection with the new laptop i have learned that u have to be at least a metre away at first connection for the pc to pick up the signal after that it dont matter how close u are as it already got the settings an stuff to see the connection

many thanks to all

No problem - it was actually something I was considering mentioning, but I thought that you were a certain distance away.

I hope that you can still stop by and visit us in the future, and maybe tell your friends about us.
