| Well, I'm on cable internet. I'm on 4MB, and the fastest I can get is 10MB. On [A]DSL, the fastest I could get would be 2MB or less due to the exchange in my area.

| Well, it really depends on how much you have to pay per month for the service. Typically Cable is the fastest, depending on your area and proximity to the hub--if you're at the end of the line of a series of people that are using the same ISP, you'll have the lowest bandwidth. However, I think service has really taken a turn for the better and this isn't as much of a worry nowadays. DSL doesnt' typically have the users problem like Cable does/did. But if you have a crappy ISP, then bandwidth/service is likely to suck. Dial-up...well...I can't really see myself using this ever again. Unless it were THE ONLY way to go online at my residence. In my area, I'd say that DSL is the best buy. I'm on a 3MB connection, and it's about 20 bucks a month. The lowest selection of Cable ISP is about fifty bucks a month. But I think it's different depending on where you are. Unfortunately in my area, there's only one cable provider, and they basically have a monopoly on cable internet service in the area, so prices for cable internet are pretty high. The opposite is true for DSL. Well, hope that helps. You might have to do a bit of research on the specific area you're moving to before knowing what the best deal would be.

| I`ll take cable over DSL any day of the week. But it is also more expensive than DSL. IMO, EarthLink has good DSL service and good tech support, so if I was going to go with DSL, I`d definitely go with EarthLink.

| its crazy how the US have Digital Subsriber Lines, I mean, we have them over here, but how un economical, to lay all that cabling, I have to say I think ADSL, SDSL and ADSL2+ is the way forward, exspecially in the UK/

| Hmm...not sure if we use the term DSL differently than you guys do. Generally any DSL service is piped through the phone lines--as long as the phone lines are relatively new (like within the last thirty or forty years or so , I think), DSL isn't a problem, and aside from the fiber optic data lines that do need to be run (but are already in place for phone service and whatnot), I am not too familiar with what else needs to be installed that isn't here already. I think what we conventionally call DSL is really ADSL, and filters are placed before any phones that are to be used in the residence. Valandil--Regarding DSL vs. Cable, I'm on a 3Mb connection and tend to get around 2.2Mb downloads--and a few of the people I work with have cable internet, and are lucky if they get 1.5. So it all depends on where you are and who you use. I wouldn't go so far to say that cable is always better than DSL everywhere. The higher-up package from my ISP provides a guaranteed 8Mb connection (upload at 1.5), which one of my friends has, which is just as good/better than the speeds of the local cable ISP, plus there's no variation in bandwidth--it's always the same regardless of the other users. However, it really wasn't worth it to me to pay the extra fifteen bucks a month for it.

| Well, in every place I've lived in that has DSL, which is quite a few, I've never noticed a problem with devices interfering with the DSL signal, nor with the wireless router signal either. I'd be more concerned with cordless phone/cell phone interfering with the signal because they are most close to the operating frequency of a wireless router/hub, which is how all the devices in my apartment connect to the internet, instead of regular devices interfering like corded phones or microwaves (by the way, microwaves are shielded so as not to nuke anything not in the microwave...so unless you have a malfunctioning microwave, you have nothing to worry about--though perhaps you mean stray RF that travels through the electrical wires in the house, though this should also affect cable internet signals as well). So really, people might as well go with the best price/speed they can find, regardless of whether it's DSL or cable.
