I thought this looked like a nice place/community to ask a questions about my laptop (I hope you can help) Basically i was given a laptop for xmas but was there when it was purchesed from Pc-world, And they said that the laptop was "Wireless-enabled". so i was pretty pleased. I then open it on xmas day in my home which has a wireless connection.. Turn on the wireless button on the laptop..and nothing happens? I haven't tried playing with the settings yet incase i go wrong.. Can anyone help ? Id be so happy if i could get the internet on it soon . Thanks, James. |

| Hey superjario, welcome to CompuForums! I hope you visit us in the future and add yourself to the member map [see the link in my signature] Firstly could you please tell us the make and model of the laptop, and also your wireless router? This will help us diagnose your problem.

| OK, do you also have the model number of your laptop? Usually on the box and the sticker on the back

| A link from the PC World website would help.

| Now I have all the details it will be much easier to troubleshoot this. Firstly on most laptops when you use the wireless switch not much happens, if anything at all. Once you've pressed it and it is on, then all you need to do is going into Network Connections [can be found in Control Panel], double clicking the icon of your wireless adaptor, then clicking on View Wireless Networks. A few seconds later and you should be able to see your wireless network and connect to it.

| Have you checked to see it ACTUALLY HAS WIFI, because PCWorld are pretty awful, their staff have been rated as poor for technical knowledge. If you go to Control Panel > System > Devices > Device Manager then there should be a wireless adapter in there. If there isn't then maybe it hasn't been installed or maybe your laptop doesn't have one. As I said, dont trust PC World. Also, try what Ashley says, cos that should do the trick if there is a Wifi Adapter.

| I agree. PC World does suck, but it should not affect the laptop. However if it does not have wireless I suggest getting a refund and a better laptop from another retailer - always avoid Celeron M if you can.
