| Mac OSX - while it's BSD based, is what virtually every Mac runs. Does using a Mac make you better than everyone else? Talk about it here. |

I think macs suck because I think they're the slowest computers you can possibly find. They may have better graphics cards, but that doesn't mean that they're better computers, are they?
~Sean EDIT: Moved to Mac, this has nothing to do with Windows.

The newest Macs [Intel-based] are using hardware very similar to Windows. Mac OS X has been run on Intel - based PCs with a bit of modification [not emulated, run natively].

I certainly think they don't have better gfx cards. On the pre-made ones, the best you can get are nvidia 7 series. If you do serious gaming, DX10 compatible cards(i.e. 8 series) are very important. Besides, I was hoping people with more computer experience could think of more reasons to hate macs.

Well, they are overpriced (as mentioned). Especially since you could get an awesome PC for the price of the bottom-line iMac/MacBook. Although I haven't used Macs all that much, they seem a little complicated to use. Maybe that's just because I've always used Windows. For some reason, people seem to think that everything on a Mac is easier. I don't know why, I think Windows is easier to use... Plus, you can easily upgrade Windows-based systems, not so much on Macs. I suppose both Windows and Macs have their ups and downs, but, I just prefer Windows.

I do agree that they're way too expensive.
The iBook costs $3000 USD and that's just ridiculous! Another thing, the last Macintosh (Macintrash) version of IE is IE5, and it's pretty bad, MSN.com doesn't even load right. But still, Apple has advanced through the years. And Mac OS 9 sucked just as much, and had pretty bad graphics. But Mac OS X does have some good things, examples: iMovie, but all I have is Windows Movie Maker (Is iMovie even compatible with WinXP?) Then, there's the music program GarageBand. I've seen people use it, and it's interesting what you can do with it. ACID Music Studio for PCs is pretty good too. But I'd probably say is 99.7% bad, and .3% good. ~Sean

Well, thanks for your replies. I wanted to see if there are more downsides than I know of for macs, and I have found out some. I think macs are only good for video and music editing, which does definetly not warrant the extreme price. If I were to spend 3K on a computer, it would be the sickest gaming rig the world has ever seen

I built a computer for a guy that ended up being like $5000 (CAD). But, that was before dual-core was released. I believe he used/uses it for gaming.

It is amazing how whenever a PC/Mac debates go on, the Mac bashers seem to always come out. It is sad to say I used to be one of them. But in dealing with the never ending Windows problems and trying to fix mine and other other people's Windows PC's over the last few years made me say enough was enough to make the switch. I've had far less problems with my Mac than I ever did with a Windows box. I agree with the fact that for gaming, PC's are indeed better. But a Mac has never really been a gaming machine because it wasn't intended to be one. However, I've come read postings from quite a few Intel-Mac users who play PC games on the Macs and they love it. The Power PC processor had it limitations and I think this was part of the reasoning why Apple decided to switch over to the use of the Intel Chipset. However, if one can remember in the early years of the Power PC, the Macs ran considerably faster than the Intel/AMD processors available at the time. Then the Intel/AMD processor speed wars began and the rest is history. Apple realized this two years ago and made the necessary changes in their product line. Now their machines benchmark right along with new generation of PC's out there. People are now starting to see this as Apple's share of the computer market steadily grows. To pay a little bit more to get a less hassle free machine in the long run is worth it to some and it was to me. I don't game very much anymore but if I ever decide to get back into it again, I find it more economical in the long run to go buy a gaming console which is designed to run games much better than a PC. Having to overhaul the PC hardware every year or two so it can run the latest PC game can get quite costly real quick.

I havn't seen very many mac's, but the ones that I have seen have had the computer and the monitor in the same little box. I think this is very stupid because if somebody accidently breaks their monitor, they have a chance of breaking their entire computer.
