Default help power saving mode ?

I have a Dell Dimension desktop computer. i bought it quite a while ago, i would say it is about 4 or 5 years old. The computer would always run pretty slow, then It began to run unusually slow. it always said that the computer needed to be updated and that the virtual memory was dangerously low. I was not able to update it for a while becuase i was not connected to the internet. Another thing is that i would leave the computer running for about 3 days at a time or longer. One day my computer would not turn on. You push the button that is usually a green flashing light, but now instead it is solid orange. It starts but stops before you can do anything, the screen is black and gets a small box that says COMPUTER IS IN POWER SAVING MODE ACTIVATE USING THE PC. i can't do anything, i cant type, there is no power going to the mouse, keyboard or anything. It seems like it stops for some reason. I tried all the troubleshooting and nothing has worked. Dell service reps told me my monitor went bad i bought a new one and had the same message on the screen. Then they told me it was my mother board but i do not think that is what it is. I looked inside the computer and everything looks fine. Could this be a memory issue that becuase i never solved got worse? Please help me out on this i would like to get this computer running so i can save my files and pictures.
