Been working on the last room of the house for the past three weeks and it has been a pain! ![]() Reason: I re-sheetrocked it and had someone come over and plaster it for me. Let it dry out for several weeks and after I put the primer coat on the walls... the low tack tape I used to mask off windows, etc... pulled the paint off once I removed it! Well... no one could figure out what was going on.... but now the last room in this house is done and I can now get back to other things!!!

I can build my own addition but what I am working with here is an existing room in the attic area. The servants once lived up here back in the 1800's. Needed the extra room and had to fix it seeing that the skylite was bad.... it leaked so I replaced that and when I replaced it... the horsehair plaster started to fall apart and thus I had to re-sheetrock it and had someone come in to plaster it (that I will not do). Other than that... I had nothing better to do with my life!

Google --> Sheetrock
| |||
First, I live in MA which is in the US. Sheetrock is the material you put to cover the wall after the frame has been insulated. In verrrrrrrry simple terms... it is a layer of plaster with a paper backing on both sides. On side if deemed to be the finish side which faces the interior of the structure. The sheetrock, once up has the seams mudded with either plaster or joint compound and then tape (which can be either paper or mesh) is laid over it and then mud is skimmed over that to both hide the tape and reinforce it. The purpose of this is to hide the seam and or cover the sheetrock screws. If you are good.... you can wet your trawol (sp?) and skim over it until you get it smooth. Then the plasterer comes in and skim coats the entire wall with a plaster mix (duro rock or any of a number of surface coverings available out there). As it is drying, the plasterer will be skimming the wall to give it a smooth surface and hopefully no sanding (but usually... there is lots of sanding thus the plaster dust gets everywhere Result, the smooth surface that makes up the walls and ceilings in your house. No offense and I don't want to cause an issue here at all, but either you have little knowledge about how houses are built or do you live in a mobile home? You don't have to answer. Bottom line... this is what sheetrock is and how it is used and prep. Which is why I don't like to do it! ![]()
