Default How much for Tech jobs?

I currently make $10 bucks an hour and feel that I am getting screwed for my vast knowledge of internet, software, hardware, and customer support. I also do the main secretarial work which contains filing things, billing, payment recieving, call monitoring (I answer all calls that come in) and even keep the place clean with vacuuming, sweeping, etc. My girlfriend just got a job (Which is what got me thinking) for 12.60 an hour and all she does is set up accounts in Excel and answer phones. Maybe some filing. That is it. Otherwise she does what she wants. I am happy for her but am seriously reconsidering the "generousity" of my own manager. I am 21 years old and am very good at what I do. My main question is what should I be making with 2 years of job experience of what I said above? Also I want to hear about anybody else with these problems and let me know what you came up with if you solved the problems at all.

Welcome to the world of legal employment rape. I work for the my state government, therefore, I've been reamed a time or two. I however read that the payscale for non-certified IT staff is about equal with the certified staff. Which could be a good sign for the non-certified. IT job cuts dip; noncertified skills pay on the rise

I recommend http://seeker.dice.com/ or even yahoo hot jobs. Of course, as a state employee, I'm not making much more than you are, and I don't need to take out the trash (sorry to rub it in).

I know that I live in the UK, but I imagine the US and UK aren't that different. I work in a call centre, answer phones from tenants and thats about it (rent inquiries, repairs, etc...), I am 17 (18 on saturday). Using XE.com I calculate that I get $18.10 an hour (£8.82). But I'm not sure the difference in the cost of living across the pond

Looks Like I'm moving to the UK!!!!! That would be a pay raise for me, and I am the primary tech for my whole library. Yes I have a supervisor, but he's taking classes(to finish his batchelors), and acts as "2nd tier". I doubt even he makes that much. (i said my work is cheap, I get 14.17/hr USD.

I'm willing to bet that general cost of living and house prices aren't anywhere as near as high as in the UK - lol, most expensive country in Europe!

We pay a lot more in equivalent due to our horrible government and "soccer mom" effect. I call it a "soccer mom" efect because we mess with everything un important and cause mass discomfort more often times than not to our kids.

Don't bother with US then... no really. It isn't any better here. I am 21 and went to two community colleges and tried to go to a university till I relized I was paying more for the same crap. Been in college for 5 years now and am learning the same crap I learned in high school still.

??? I didn't much understand where this came from, lol. But on politics, I don't follow too much but this election I got a surprising abundant amount of info. Don't go with anybody but Ron Paul. He is the best bet to get this country back on track, economy stabalized, a proper education to our kids, and more bang for our ever sucking dollar. (US dollar that is)

college and uni are different in the United States, We have Nursery/kindergarten, reception, 6 years of primary education (until you're around 10 Y/O), the Secondary education which is until your 16 yrs old. After that education is not compulsory. But we then have college for two years were you do advanced level qualifications and/or equivalents. After that you go to University (e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, UCLAN, etc...)

I think your colleges are our University's, I would like to go to Harvard, Miami or California. Don't know why, British education is the best, just for the experience I suppose

You always go to the best university for what you want to do. I wanted to do agricultural engineering, so I went to the primer school, which happened to be a public university. People who want to do hardware engineering may not want to go to a school with the reputation for software engineering.
Picking the right Post-Secondary institution will do more to help you in getting a well paid career than just going to a famous school. Why would I expect to get a Great Agriculture degree from an inner-city school who specializes in business, or even education?? I wouldn't.
Choose wisely, and your pay will reflect it.
