Default How safe is Outlook express ?

I have heard that using outlook express opens you up to a virus attack or some sort of bad result. Is this true ? Does anyone know if you are more vulberable using OE ? I am on ATT dsl, and it goes through my main e-mail address. Any info would be appreciated. I am running AVG free version. ( Basic ) Thanks. Dickie

Hi there,
Outlook Express is said to be unsafe because of the preview pane where you can view an e-mail in a frame in the bottom before you open it fully.
However as long as you don't open e-mails with attachments that you don't know you should be fine.
However, I recommend that you switch to Avast Antivirus, since it finds more viruses and trojans than AVG, scans all incoming mail for viruses and also stops the download if you start downloading an infected virus.

It's free - you do need to register it every 14 months, but that is free. A small price to pay for a great program.
Get it here:

Yeah, Outlook Express is secure, if you know basic rules about e-security.

I don't use it just because it's like the first e-mail program ever and the fact that it is pretty easy to ick up a virus if you don't use it with caution

Sounding like a broken record, but if you are smart enough to guard yourself from viruses it is an ok program to use.
