Default newbie living in Spain

Hi there.

I am a newbie, British, of a "certain age," living in Spain. Computers do not come naturally to me, but I have taught myself quite a lot of the basics. Inevitably, given my nationality and where I live, much of on-screen text is in "Spangish," but I can live with that.
What I can't live with is that I have had to have installed an unofficial copy of Windows XL, which puts all sorts of stresses and strains on any software I install.
Mozilla Fireflox works excellently as a Browser (and I get automatic updates). In the meantime, for obvious reasons, I am NOT installing Windows updates, and my Internet Exporer has dated, since it is largely unused.
I am now having dreaded Javascript Runtime Environment problems, which Firefox seems to have caused me by its automatic updates.
I'll stop moaning here - you'll be pleased to see! - but will post a thread in the Software General forum in the hope that someone can help me.

I'm sure this community is a friendly and helpful one, and if I can help anyone with non-technical, basic computing skills for e.g. over 50's, do let me know.

Mark

Smile Welcome

markfox -- Welcome to CompuForums It's a pleasure to have you with us and we look forward to seeing your posts and participation. Feel free to post your issues, as well as helping others when possible.

As for your Windows XP legitimacy issues, we are limited what we can do here to support that due to legal restraints with Microsoft. I'm sure you understand. But there are other options we can explore!

As far as your FireFox issues, I encourage you to post this issue in the software forums, and am sure you'll receive a ton of support. There are many Members here who have in-depth knowledge of Mozilla FireFox and will be glad to assist you.

You'll be receiving a PM from me regarding "updates" for your Windows XP.

Once again -- Welcome!

Many thanks all 3 of you.

Its been a long time since Ive received such an enthusiastic welcome!

By the way, here on the Costa Brava in Spain, it's just about to thunder, so I'm going to unplug everything!

Hi Albrunton.

We live on the Costa Brava, due east of Gerona, where we've been for 6 years. But talk about coincidences....our house is on the market and we're looking to move. Guess where?....Gibraltar!

We've been quite a number of times, including for our honeymoon when we stayed at "The Rock."
We like the lifestyle the people and we reckon it's a good place to semi-retire to!
