IPB is free, correct? I always liked vBulletin, but the price is so high on it.

Im not entirely sure, as i've only seen hacked versions of IPB so im assuming its not free. But yes, vB is pretty expensive, but if your really into forums and other webdev things then vB is pretty intense.

Yeah, the only forum things I do is for friends and for website support and stuff like that. They are nothing major, and nothing I would really consider spending money on. I guess I will just stick with phpBB because it does the trick for what I need it for.

Actually SMF was another great forum software i forgot about. SMF is pretty hard to hack also. SMF got some pretty good reviews also. I like the security, but i just dont like the theme of it all. To wierd. But good software for security.

i was reading that one of the upcomming MyBB versions (maybe this newest one soon) will integrate the mailer more, making the process of mailing from/in the boards easier. This was a drawback to MyBB, but it wasn't murder. I had Phpmail working with it, so you can too.
