| CLEARING SEARCHES.. I have XP and use IE 7/GOOGLE ...how can I clear the search box of all previous searches? I've gone into Internet options but can only find 'delete forms'...will this do it? I don't want to delete something that shouldn't be deleted.. Thanks Edit: I have moved this post as it needed to be a new thread. Please make sure not to post new questions in old threads. Also try not to reply to really old threads. JustinGH Last edited by Mr Pickles; 03-31-2008 at 12:13 PM. |

| yea but if he only wanted to delete his history so no-one could find what he was searching, couldnt he just delete the History? since some sites need specific cookies to have any function. Just my opinion on it but i dont think deleting everything would be absoloutly wise to the word

| Those cookie files give a clear indication of what's been going on and what sites have been visited. The worst case scenario from deleting cookies is that you will need to log back into websites that require a log in.

| If you are just trying to delete items in the search box that will appear when you type things in for a search, then you will simply need to place your cursor to the lower left of the box. Click once, and then all of your searches will appear below if they are still there. Then just highlight the first one and start clicking delete until they are all gone. At least that is what it sounds like to me that you are trying to delete.

| Hmmm... My fault I mis-read the post. I didn't realize that it was just the search box he wanted to delete history from. I do apologize for not paying attention. |

| Some other options. 1) Turn off Auto Complete (this is not going to delete the items, but it may keep you from accidentally searching something you didn't want), or don't want others to see you pull up 2) with your history cleared, go to the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl delete each of the keys individually. After that, in the left hand frame, Right-Click on that "folder" and chose EXPORT. Save that to your desktop. Whenever you want to clear that "folder", just execute (double-click) the exported Registry key, and allow it to merge with the registry. That SHOULD clear the entries. EDIT: Just remembered that wont work if it's empty, it just adds/changes what's there to match what the registry file has in it. If there is additional, it stays (like additional search entries). /EDIT This method is good for many other registry keys, for settings you like to use on multiple machines. I often export these .reg files to create consistent settings on various PC's. It saves time over setting each item individually, and if you have MANY settings you like it's easier to get them all.

| Thanks guys, The problem - clearing previous searches from the drop down box of the search box.. I did try deleteing each search result but that didn't work.. I then tried- unchecking 'FORMS' in ...Autocomplete - Settings...this worked.. whatever you search for isn't saved in the dropdown box of the search box...I find this to be a simple, practical solution..( I hope )...provided you don't want your searches saved. Appreciate all your interest ..thanks again. Last edited by fatican; 04-03-2008 at 10:44 PM. Reason: spelling |

| Wouldn't that just be in the browser settings?
