Default Downloading Files that can't be viewed.

I am downloading a few files. Some are ".rar" and the others are, well, can't seem to find them now. Anyways. For the .rar files. What programs out there are free and able to view these files?

We'd appreciate it if you could return the favour by helping a few other people or becoming a premium member.

If not you can post in the off topic areas, or donate to the rising cost of running this site by getting a premium membership.

Well the internet advice is supposed to be free, hence the free sign up and use. A donation isn't a donation if it is asked to be paid... I am sorry but this is kind of rude to be asking me to do this. I was not aware in the agreement or anything else that I had to pay money to ask questions on this sight. I beleive we are way off topic now so maybe we should move this to pms...

Ash made this forum as a computer discussion forum not a help forum, however as i understand it, because of the way people used this forum it has turned into a computer help forum even though this was not the intended case. Users post all sorts of questions some are very simple and can be answered by a lot of members (and newbies) whilst others are a little harder and are answered by the more experienced users. Users do not mind helping others but its always nice to get something in return so ASH encourages new users to help in anyway they can. As he said you can post in the off topic section if you are unable to post in any other category. He only suggested becoming a premium member and its not mandatory but helps with the cost of keeping this site going and to help towards rising hosting costs. Some of the help given by this site is extremly good and would cost quite a lot if you had to go to a professional organization. whilst im not a premium member yet I do my upmost to answer as many questions and problems as possible as my contribution towards compuforums. All that said anyway its nice to meet you.

Well, I don't want to argue about this or anything on forums as online arguing is just stupid. But i didn't know all that so i guess I will stick to the general discussions from now on.

Posting in the General discussions is GREAT!! You will find that sometime, somewhere, you will know more than others about something. In that you can help. That is all we ask We want you to be here. Please do not think otherwise

In answer to the original question.

7zip is another free program that can read .rar files. Also. If you get files that you cannot determine what application wil open, I suggest TrIDNet. It's an application which will usually tell you the file type of an unknown file.

For media files, if you cannot open them, I use a free program called Gspot to find out the codecs and media file type, ie: divx, xvid, mp3, Ac3, etc.

Hope this helps.
