ok. so i started using pidgin. it's not too shabby. no bells or fancy pretty shinny things. i do have a question though- when i hit backspace one too many times it buzzes at me. -what a horrible buzz it makes. does anyone know how to turn this buzz off (or know what i'm talkin' about)? it's really annoying. even if i select "mute sounds" it doesn't go away. i guess it's not a super-big deal, but would be a better experience if it didn't happen.

ok. so i found a solution in another forum because it was driving me NUTS!

Exit Pidgin.
Open the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\etc\gtk-2.0\gtkrc in editing software (i used openoffice) and add this line:

gtk-error-bell = 0

Be sure to save your changes.

IT WORKS!!!!!!!! NO ANNOYING BUZZ
