Default NOD32, Avast, or AVG

What do you guys use, and what's your reasoning behind it?

I've used all 3 and am currently using Avast, I'm just wondering what other people think of them.

They all prove pretty good (as far as my needs go) in terms of protection, but does anybody have any special experiences (good or bad) with one of them? Just collecting info =].

I switched off of McAfee (work provided) when My wife was able to allow a few unwanted visiting programs to install. After switching to Avast 4 home-free, It found some adware/spyware of which I was unaware. specifically, It found a spyware in the wrapper for Trillion. As it uses 6-7 sources to scan, I feel a little better on the software end. Still, I do my best to study up on the current threats, and learn how to avoid them. A little knowledge on our part solves a lot of problems.

Yeah but so does OS X Tiger +, probably because of the Unix base.

Whatever the reason, I was just wondering on a poll between the three of those on windows running machines, not trying to start a debate :-\.

i love debates
NOD32 is the best a/v money can buy.... peroid.
avast and avg ... they both have holes... IMO. AVG has better residential protection than AVAST and avast has a better scanner.

Ya, I meant the free versions, lol.

There's lots of things I "meant" - should have included all that, eh?

Everything has a hole or two. That is why we must become more educated, so that we may reduce the holes in our barriers.

I agree. It definitely is.

I was hung up on Nortan for a while until I realized I was spending a ridiculous amount for the 1 year subscription and it was more of a pain than it was a life saver. Any of the "major threats" that nortan anti-virus detected would have been picked up by any other anti-virus program, and it missed all the small stuff, so it was useless. That's when I decided to go with AVG, then I switched to NOD32, with this last computer I've been using avast - and now I'm just wondering which one gets a label as "the best free" version - as I hear good things about all three.

I say AVG, the computers tech at my work swears up and down to it that it works. I have loved it ever since I started using it. I have had no complaints, and it's free. So no complaints and free can't beat that showdown.

I personally use linux, so I don't use any of them, but, I do recommend AVG to everyone, as I have used it before.
