Hmm... have you installed a firewall or changed it's settings recently?

Not that I know of. When did the problem start up, and how do you know that it's due to port 80 being blocked?

It started this morning, I know that its port 80 because it lets me open msn and other apps that dont run on port 80 but still need a connection.

This sounds to me like a DNS problem - which can usually be easily fixed. Are you running a router?
It will be pretty hard to diagnose this without you being at the computer, but if you can't visit BBC - homepage - Home of the BBC on the Internet, can you access BBC - homepage - Home of the BBC on the Internet instead?

Ah... You'll have to pop back into your house [or see if you can connect to your wireless signal], but preferably it would be best if you did it at home. Try unplugging the router for a couple of minutes [you can just unplug the low-voltage cable that leads into it] and do the same to your modem if you have one, and plug everything back in again. Also try this:
-Click Start, Run
-Type in 'cmd' [without quotes] and press enter.
-In the command prompt box, type 'ipconfig /flushdns' [again without quotes]
-Also, if that doesn't work then try typing 'ipconfig /release' and once that has completed try 'ipconfig /renew'

If all of the above still does not resolve your problem - call your ISP. They may be having trouble with their DNS servers and a quick call will let you know [out of interest, what ISP is it?]

Hello there,

I have linksys router connecting to a desktop (through cable) which is working fine for the internet, but my (Vista) laptop can not go anywhere through web browser (IE and Firefox) through wire card and wireless card (which is connecting to this router). But I do have the network connection for the laptop and I can go to MSN without problem, and I can ping Yahoo! and CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News as well. It is cleary that it's not ISP problelm and not the router problem. It seems to me that the http port 80 on the laptop is blocked. how can i confirm if it's blocked and how can I unblock it? (additional info: I have turn off the firewall, still have the same problem, so it's not the firewall related issue; I have updated Norton virus definiciton and run the full scan and the laptop is clean). Could you help? Thanks a lot. Jim

This is what i do when nothing works:

Code:
ipconfig /release
net stop "dhcp client"
net start "dhcp client"
ipconfig /renew
pause
right-click on the desktop, create a textfile, paste this in it,
save it as a .bat file and run it.
Name it whatever you like. I use "IP.bat" just for the simplicity of it.

It fixes most of my problems..pretty much the same as Ash suggested with a twist

Note: If you have a working connection you don't have to run it.
