Default Parity Error

Friend's computer is malfunctioning and I haven't been able to be of assistance.


Blue - Screen - of- Death!
Error Message that comes up when computer is booted up:


*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted **


I've called Dell twice. Replaced the RAM and the Video Card. Dell offers no other solutions other than replacing the motherboard. I'm not sure if this is going to be the answer.

Any advice?

Has your friend added any new hardware recently?
Has he/ she tried disconnecting any DVD / CD ROMS, and then tried re-booting?

It may be down to lack of power..

I always encourage people to report the solutions to their technical problems. Doing so allows others to receive answers and keeps this forum alive.

So, I'm happy to say that I've solved the mystery to this one. After my friends paid 49.95 to Dell for support and not received any help I figured out it was due to a faulty modem card in one of the PCI slots. The machine is a Dell XPS 410.

The tech guy said it was going to cost $400 to replace the motherboard. Thankfully it was not the case.
