Default difference between CPU and microprocessor

hello friends,

I want to know difference between "CPU" and "microprocesser". Initially I thought they both mean the same but now I'm confused

Hi there,

Ill explain as best as possible. All CPUs are microprocessors. All microprocessors are not CPUs. CPU stands for "Central Processing Unit" but it is not the only microprocessor in a modern computer system. Others include the GPU (graphics), Northbridge (memory and bus control), Southbridge (ATA bus control), and a multitude of other small processors for tasks such as controlling the read-heads in a hard drive, how to process sound, and other non-trivial tasks.

Hope this is of some help.

Don't confuse microprocessor with Micro controller (used a lot in robotics and rc vehicles) Microprocessors PROCESS information, Controllers contain at least one processor and other programmable chips (eeproms and whatnot) all on one board.

many college courses in Comp Sci in India make heavy use of the 8088 microcontroller, which is not the same as the 8086 microprocessor

I worked at a University, and had more than a few student workers from India. It's a real pleasure speaking with someone who can fully understand and articulate the Queens English! (and Yes, I'm in Texas where many a stereotype of drawl and colloquialisms abound (stereotypes that are 95% untrue)
The gestures were something to get used to, however, as a head-nod means yes in both languages, but head shake does NOT mean the same. The head shake means more than yes, but wholeheartedly agreed/understood. In other words, a greater degree of agreement.

wait, so are you english english? or are you a texan. the "queens english" thing threw me off. (btw i live in nebraska, and the southern stereotypical dialect is just as bad here as it is in the south. i used to live in tenn. and most people spoke well, but damn...go to arkansas, and get a bunch of southerners together at a family picnic, and u won't understand a word.)

or is it....
