Default processor upgrade

i have a pentium 4 that runs at 1.80ghz and i have 1.50 gb of ram and i have kaspersky antivirus which slows my computer

does the regular pentium 4 take the same slot as a pentium 4ht? would this be a safe upgrade since i have a regular pentium 4 fan? how much would the upgrade be? is it worth it?

I think that your main upgrade should be switching antivirus software if it's slowing your PC down. You might get more performance from a higher clockspeed, but this would also depend on things like your motherboard's FSB. More info would be nice.

Yes more information is needed about your computer if you want help with this question. I never even heard of Kaspersky, but no antivirus software should significantly slow down your computer like you are saying, especially if it's constant and not just while it's running full system scans.

Kaspersky is supposed to be very light, consuming very few system resources. Have a look in your system start up to see what is loading in when you boot up. You don't say what your OS is but if its XP get msconfig up via run to check your start up. I dunno what it is for Vista. Uncheck anything not essential and see if it's faster when you reboot.
