Default Loud fans

I got some free fans from a local computer shop and installed them a few weeks ago, but one of them is EXTREMLY loud. I'm thinking its the CPU fan, but I want to make sure before I replace it. What is the safest way to run the computer without the fan? I would only have it unplugged for a few seconds, but is that long enough to overheat?

If you are only doing it for a few seconds you should be fine.

alright, took the chance and it is the CPU fan. The fan is made by a company called AVC. Does anyone know if this is a high quality fan, or a a cheap fan. I'm trying to figure out if it is worth selling, or if it is just worth throwing away and replacing.

Sounds pretty generic to me. If it is making as much noise as you say, you would probably be better off replacing it with a new, high quality one. What socket type is your MB? I might be able to find a decent cheap one for you.

I don't exactly understand socket types, but the processor is a 775 socket I believe, but I may be wrong.

My Lenovo laptop fan is pretty loud and it seems like it runs a lot more often then it should. I usually am not doing anything too involved either. I don't like to open up multiple programs and tabs on Internet Explorer and be doing a million things at once, but it seems like it overreacts to the smallest things. I wouldn't mind except, from being on this forum, I know that the fan being on all of the time is not a good thing and there may be some kind of problem or something I could do to calm it down so to speak. Any suggestions?

An LGA 775 socket is pretty common, it is very likely that's what it is. If you are limited for space and $$, this might be what you are looking for. COOLER MASTER 95mm Rifle CPU Cooler
If neither of these is a concern, then look at this one. Thermaltake Blue orb II CPU Cooler for LGA775 & K8

Also, to jennifer.goldson, please do NOT hijack other peoples threads, as it unfair to the person who started it. Please start your own thread.

This may be a little off topic, but what do you think the downfall is in my system?

*Intel Pentium4 ~2.26ghz
*512 DDR2 553 single stick
*Radeon 9200 128mb
*P4M800PRO mobo w/ onboard sound
*80g HD

its a little old school, but all I really want it to do is to be able to play games like Oblivion on medium or low settings with smooth rendering, browse the internet, and run my chat programs. I'm just trying to figure out what to upgrade first...

There is no safe way to run a computer without a fan, especially if its a heat sink fan.

Measure the fan's width and thickness in metric (using mm). That is the size of fan to replace it with.

Purchasing an individual fan (without bearings), as opposed to a new heatsink & fan, is less costly. Be sure the fan you purchase is designed for a socket 775 CPU.

Yo!
