| I have a vintage 12/2001 PC (XP Home) with VIA chipset and 266 FSB. I copied my old HDD (60Gb) to a new drive (120Gb IDE) using Ghost 10.0. Ghost said the copy was successful. I selected the copy parameters necessary to make the new drive my boot drive. When I viewed the contents of the new drive, all folders, etc. appeared to be in order. When I attempted to boot up using the new drive, I received a "Primary boot disc fail" (something to that effect) message. The old drive was completely disconnected, and I made sure I used the proper bus connector on the cable with the new drive. Where do I go from here?? |

| Have you checked that the jumpers on the new drive are set correctly?

| The jumper was set to "Master" on the new drive. The new drive was formatted prior to the copy, although the Ghost manual said it didn't have to be. |

| Right - and how is the drive connected on the IDE cable - are there any other devices on it? This may seem simple, but sometimes it turns out to be the simplest thing causing it. Maybe you could list everything you have tried so far to get it working again so we don't go over anything you have already tried.

The new drive was connected to the end (primary) connector on the IDE cable. It was the only device on the cable. During bootup, when I went into setup, the BIOS recognized the new drive as primary and had its parameters correct. When I exited setup, however, the system failed to complete the bootup process with the error message I mentioned in my original post. This is driving me freaking crazy. I just know it's something stupidly simple. Of course, I've been called that before. |
