Default Intel motherboard + CPU recommendations please.

Hi, I'm planning to buy a new computer since this one is 8 years old, it's a veteran (Next stop, out of the window! )

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to CPU's and motherboards - I want to buy a 3.60 GHz Intel processor and an Intel motherboard that can support\handle and is compatible with the CPU...

The processor is Intel (R) Pentium 4 CPU , that's all I know.

Can you help, please?

Hi Death_Awaits,
Welcome to the forum - good to have you here. I hope you will be on the board for a long time, and if there is anything I can do to make your experience better please let me know.
We are here to help you, so it would be appreciated if you could help us by posting in threads as well as your own. By doing so, you are helping to keep this site running in the future, and we will respond to your thread faster too.

What do you intend on using the computer for?
You mention a P4 - do you have this processor already and you want a suitable motherboard for it, or are you looking for a new CPU too?

I intend to use the computer for everything, but mostly gaming. I am looking for an Intel processor, a CPU and a suitable Intel motherboard. I'm trying to build my own PC - I don't have anything yet...

I've already determined my graphics card, sound card, RAM and the operating system. I want the specifications for the CPU, processor and a motherboard.

EDIT: The CPU clock speed has to be 3.60 GHz - RAM is going to be 2 GB, video card is Geforce 512 MB NVIDIA, sound card is Creative sound blaster.

Money isn't a big a problem here - but I'm not looking for a miracle of a computer

i would have thought an intel core 2 duo or quad would be a better choice! they do run at a lower frequency but out do the pentium 4's by loads.

even a 1.6Ghz pentium dual core will kill a pentium 4 that is 3.4Ghz
