Default DVD Driver Missing?

My DVD drive that came with my eMachines T6542 has not been working properly. Two days ago, my computer wasn't even using it. Windows says that the driver is missing and am getting 'Error Code 39'. I have read around, and found out that there is no driver and that it comes with Windows.

So I followed the advice of Windows, uninstalled the device and re-installed it. Windows told me that the driver is corrupted or something. Can I get some help?

The device is Philips DVD8801 and I have been told that this is a repackaged BenQ1650.

you might want to go to the manufactures website and update your firmware for the drive. Sometimes they have fixes in the updates.

Did both. Didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

Try this it worked with the identical problem in XP.

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.
