Default CPU & New Video Card

I was wondering what a processor requires from my motherboard? So I'd know which CPU to buy. I tried googling and asking around, but had little to no success.
My computer is freaking old, and it was rather cheap when I bought it. I think it's time I upgraded my processor, but I have no idea what I need to find out before buying.

Second question. Can you guys suggest a good budget card for me. I'm thinking about GF 7600GT/GS what ever, but I really don't know what I should purchase as there are so many. (My last card was XFX GF6600 GT AGP)

Thanks for helping the newbie

Download and run CPUID. Take a screen shot of what it says about your cpu. As for the video card, wait until HIS releases the HD 2600XT for agp. It's a dx10 card for agp, and should have great performance.

You've got any idea on the price of 2600XT. Is it a Radeon or Geforce card? (Propably Radeon) I'm looking for a budget priced card, I don't really care if its the top notch card out there.

I'm looking for answers should I buy a XT/GT/etc Geforce card, as I'm not really familiar with the terms. + I'm located in Finland, and it'll take some time before I can get any new cards, and they're cost more here.

I'll run the CPUID monitor later on. Thanks for the reply mate.

Normally, I would just suggest going for a decent barebones system but having seen the prices of hardware in Finland (Jimmspc) I would suggest getting onto E-bay (either .de or .co.uk) and finding a reputable seller and buying a board & chip combo and video card to suit your budget. Buying just a CPU has caused us several problems in the past. Hope this helps!

Good Luck.
