| Yep - I agree. I'll be giving it a try though - I abandoned an order for some free Vista disks as part of the express upgrade program because it wanted me to pay S&H, but I just got an e-mail telling me that I'll get them by May 1st [a bit late maybe...] Still, I suggest waiting 'til Vista SP1 is out before buying it - Vista should be cheaper, too - particularly the non-SP1 versions stores will want to get rid of. You can always install SP1 for free right after purchasing it.

| ATM, Vista hasn't had SP1 released for it. However, as with XP, when Microsoft do release it and will include it with all the copies they manufacture after release. Retailers will be keen to get rid of the non-SP1 packs, so you should be able to get it cheaper. Then you can just download or request a free CD from Microsoft [they usually offer it] containing Vista SP1.

| Yep - you can dual boot with Vista. You don't even need a new hard drive [but since you want to get an OEM copy, you'll probably need one]. While installing Vista you will be given the option to install it to a second hard drive or partition. Just make sure you've formatted everything in NTFS [and created partitions] before you install Vista.

| Some retailers require you to purchase a hardware component with an OEM license to ensure compliance with the System Builder's License [ http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/P...SB_License.pdf ]. However, you should be able to find one that doesn't.

| You won't need a new hard drive, I think I mis-read your post.

| If you do decide to get Vista now............well you will be one the new users (along with all of the other Visa users who had to have it because it is new) who will be the testing phase to work out all of the kinks - Thus when they do come out with SP1, etc. myself and possibly others who have responded to your thread will then consider more strongly towards upgrading ourselves - It does have some neat things, but do you really want the headache right now? - "If it ain't broke..don't fix it!!!" - I did not mean to imply that you want the upgrade as others might because it is new, that would be a bad assumption - Think on it some more before you do make the step. |
