Default Club 3D X1950pro Ati Radeon anti aliasing problem! Please help!

Hi guys,

I just bought new Club 3D x1950 pro (256 mb-256 bit) Ati Radeon graphic card. Everything was installed properly from instalation cd,
(catalyst/drivers) i was shocked positivly with performance and graphic, images and etc. Played few games like Oblivion, Live2007,Pes6 didnt touched the catalyst control center. In few days i tryd to change some settings in catalyst control center like anti aliasing and few others options aswell. Played games for some time and decide to put back old setings so i lowered anti aliasing to defaults(let the app decide option). After that my anti aliasing is messed up, the edges on most of images or objects are messed up----its looks bad, its totaly different then it was b4 i touched anti aliasing option in catalyst control center.Shades on some games are messed up too. I couldn't resolve the problem for 2 weeks so i decide to reinstall my graphic card drivers. After reinstaling the drivers it didn't make any difference. It started to XXXXing me off a little bit so i downloaded newest driver (catalyst control center) from Ati support site and installed it properly. The problem is still there. Heh, i wish i didnt touched anything. If someone could help, please leave some words here. Thx.

Default Can you set to default

Welcome to compuforums chuck.
Hope you will add yourself on the member map.

On your graphics card settings, do you see any button that says "Set Defaults" or something.

If so click on it and it should put everything back to normal.

Your not the real Chuck Norris are you?

Hmm...I have a the ATI version of the radeon x1950pro and haven't run into this with the new catalyst drivers. But still, I think that if you set everything to default, and only change detail settings in the game, you should be fine--that's what I do. Personally, I can't stand catalyst. I do know that there is an alternative, non-ATI supported driver for ATI radeon cards called Omega--have you tried that? Perhaps that should help. It's supposedly better (though I have had no problems so far with catalyst, so I haven't wanted to switch). Just google omega and ATI and it should come up with the result.

So I don't know--if everything is disabled in catalyst and you can change settings in the game and see a difference, then that should work. If everything is disabled in catalyst and you can change settings in the game and nothing happens, then there's probably a problem with catalyst. But I can't say anything more certain than that because I have not run into this problem before.

Another thing that occurred to me is if you could perhaps get ahold of only the driver for the x1950--separate from catalyst--that way no auto settings are enabled, and anything that you want to change is done in the game. I'm not even sure if just the driver for the card is available separate from catalyst.

I never really understood the auto-configure in catalyst because gameplay varies greatly from one game to another when the same settings are kept (like 4x AA or 16x AF)--because of the vastly different graphics engines in games. So you might as well have no options to change any settings except in the game itself. Odd, don't know why ATI thought that was a good idea.
